Description
This air door actuator directly replaces the original actuator on specific vehicle years, makes, models, configurations and positions to restore proper HVAC operation. Please note that many vehicles have several different air door actuators, which are designed for specific positions and functions in the vehicle. To ensure you have what you need, carefully review the application notes for this part to verify it matches the position and function of the actuator you need to replace. In some online ordering systems, you may need to enter your vehicle information first to see the application notes for your vehicle. If you don't know which actuator position you need to replace, consult a qualified service technician. This part is compatible with the following vehicles. Before purchasing, enter your vehicle trim in the garage tool to confirm fitment. The air source door actuator in my '98 GMC Sierra went wonkers on me. This is the door controlling the draw of either outside air or recirculated air. It is also the most onerous of the actuators to replace; the truck was built around this actuator and you will be putting all manner of curses on the design engineers who perpetrated this hideousness upon mankind. But I digress ...just warning you. You know when these servo-motor controlled actuators bite the dust because you can hear them constantly cycling and with this one I could also hear the air door flopping open and closed. You can find a handful of OEM replacement parts for the actuator and while you can get an original GM Delco part ...the Dorman part was the least expensive and made in Korea. From previous experience I figured the original GM Delco part, the most expensive, had a high probability of coming from China. And while I'd much rather install Delco parts in my GM truck I'm tired of sending my money to China and getting subpar quality and longevity. I have previous experience with a Dorman, Korean-made, replacement wiper control circuit board that has lasted the longest of any outside of the factory original. So, I went with the Dorman part. While the Dorman replacement actuator casing is slightly different from the factory original, it fits perfectly and works like the original. Make sure you get the right actuator when you have to replace them. There are three of them in my truck with A/C and while they appear identical they are each subtly different. There are no installation instructions included with the Dorman part; I have a factory service manual. You need to "index" the actuator. Before installing the new actuator, connect the power lead to the actuator ...don't put it in place just let it hang ...hook up the battery (which you really want to disconnect when you do this job or any electrical job on your truck), tun the key to "ON" and set the "recirc" button to the fresh air setting and make sure the temp selector is *not* in "MAX" A/C mode. Doing this ensures the actuator is set at the correct "fresh air" position and you leave the air door in the closed "fresh air" position (easier for installation). The Dorman actuator has been in for about a 6 weeks now and working perfectly.
