My new go to Breakfast Blend…Extremely fresh with a best by date way into the future…Everyone likes FRESH…French Press is where this blend shines…Makes waking up in the morning not as bad for others. I usually drink it black…But at home with some Half & Half and 1/2 packet of Splenda is delightful.I was buying this coffee from a competitor until the Taiwanese government changed import laws and the prices almost doubled. I was quite happy to find it here at a reasonable price. I ended up trying Starbucks French roast and even their espresso blend. Neither had the strength and flavour of this brand. Highly recommended! This coffee has done an exquisite job of marketing. Fair trade, organic, ethical in every sense of the word. And whole bean at that so you’re bound to expect the best flavor- right? This particular flavor ‘Mind, Body, and Soul’ is one that my fiance and I enjoy but don’t necessarily swoon over. It’s a medium blend that isn’t necessarily extremely robust. Both of us prefer a darker stout flavor, but love trying new coffees (especially organic fair trade options), so picked this one up on a whim during an Amazon Pantry order. The coffee comes well-packaged in a traditional foil-lined bag that seals in freshness. It’s easy to peel open and can nicely be folded shut and secured with clamps that are a part of the package. Great for convenience and storage. The whole beans are nicely roasted and ready to be ground. This particular 12 ounce bag lasted the two of us about 9 days- but we are avid (almost alarmingly so) coffee drinkers. For a typical household I’d assume this bag would easily last 2 to 3 weeks. We tried this coffee with a drip coffee maker, French press, and electric coffee maker. It wasn’t quite dark enough to work with the drip coffee maker and the flavor was very mild and watery when paired with that method. The French press got the best flavor from this coffee and really allowed you to taste the mild nutty flavor. It almost has an almondy undertone. It’s not a sweet coffee and it certainly lacks a ‘punch’ that I appreciate. But it wasn’t bad and I’d highly recommend it for people who want something gentle but flavorful to wake up with.I think I would try other coffees from this brand and would probably really like their darker flavors. For people who really want a lot of kick to their coffee I wouldn’t suggest this particular one though. Great things about this particular brand include the fact they are fair trade and organic. They source their coffee beans from small locally owned farmers who practice natural farming. Although my coffee connoisseur attitude does inspire me to occasionally indulge in a new Starbucks option, I always feel much better when I’m conscious about what I buy and opt for brands that seem more aware of their farmers practices and wellbeing. Fair Trade is a great option for the ‘ethically aware’ coffee shoppers out there.I really have no major complaints about this coffee, just the particular flavor didn’t suit my fancy. Because it was advertised as having a chocolate undertone I figured it may be a more robust flavor for a medium blend- but that wasn’t really the case. The nutty malt flavor is much more noticeable. But, if that suits your fancy, this option is certainly the right one for you.First off let me start by saying every morning I wake up and make my self a pot (about 22-23 ounces, in one mug) of this coffee for weeks now. It is Organic and fair trade, 12 ounce bags (vs 10 ounce that many roasters currently sell when you opt for the fair trade organic blends), and tastes excellent. I buy the whole bean and grind it myself about a bag at a time and store the ground beans in a glass container with a rubber seal.I first started looking for coffee because I used to always order directly from Green Mountain Coffee roasters (and yes paid for shipping everytime) I could have purchased cheaper GMCR coffee at local supermarkets but they did not have the fair trade organic blends that I liked. I was getting more and more annoyed because even though I was part of their cafe express club (and recently obtained platinum status) there were never any good deals, the bags were small (10 ounces vs 12) and I always had to pay for shipping which for about $50 worth of coffee the shipping was $8.00. SO I started looking for an alternative and I am very picky when it comes to my coffee.Being a loyal Amazon.com customer, I started looking for coffee on Amazon. There are loads of coffee in all different sizes for all difference prices. I was shocked. I selected (Amazon Prime shipping) and that narrowed it down a lot for me. Then I came to the Equal Exchange brand. I had heard of them before because I live in Massachusetts and they are based in Massachusetts. They offered the coffee in 3 - 12 ounce bags for a reasonable price and FREE SHIPPING! SO I chose Breakfast Blend because I don't like a very light roast and yet I don't like a very dark roast (like french) so Breakfast Blend is right in the middle. I ordered the coffee and subscribed to the automatic delivery through Amazon.com (which gave me an better price on the 3-bag bundle of coffee). When it arrived I made my first mug and was happy. The coffee is aromatic and tastes amazing. I can't go much more into detail than that, but it leaves no aftertaste to me. Which I realized only after I had this coffee because the last few sips tasted just as good as the first, unlike other roasts from GMCR.Thank you for reading, basically I recommend you subscribe to automatic delivery of this coffee (choose the longest time frame first, then when you find your self running out adjust accordingly), buy your self a good coffee grinder (often you can find cheap ones that grind a few cups at a time) and enjoy this amazing organic fair trade coffee that is such a great deal! The first time I ever enjoyed this coffee was as a gift; my Mom's church was selling it as a fundraiser. I have it auto-shipped to me as a treat. The flavor is amazing! If you grind your own coffee, do yourself a favor and buy a bag today.A great way to start your day!
